HOME BUILDER TECH TIPS FROM SOUTHERN WHEELS
When replacing brake shoe return springs, remember that many are color-coded. This is because the secondary (rear) shoe requires a stronger spring because of the greater force needed to return the secondary shoe due to the rotation of the wheel in forward movement when driving. Look at your old springs' color and position before removing them. Some are not color-coded, but a general rule is that red, yellow and black are secondary springs, green is primary. Different manufacturers use different colors, and to further complicate things, a car manufacturer's OEM springs such as Dodge Super Bee / Charger, offer springs with flat black primary and pink secondary. If you put them in backwards, the car will tug on that wheel. We forget colors and use a spring scale tester. The spring with the most pull is the secondary.

A LITTLE ABOUT US
Because American Rods and Rides is geared toward "car people", we run our business accordingly. We have spent the last 12 years researching and perfecting what car enthusiasts are looking for. We combined this knowledge with more than 50 years of experience to create a website that will allow us to change and grow with the sport and hobby of street rods, muscle cars, customs, antiques, classics, race cars, and project vehicles. Our Website Is Designed For People Who Are Better With Wrenches Than Computers. We hope you enjoy it!

STREET RODS, MUSCLE CARS, AND US
We would like to thank all of the street rod family for their support. We attend National Street Rod Association, GoodGuys, and Right Coast Association events all over the country. We are members of SEMA, HRIA, ISCA. These organizations are extremely worthwhile joining if you like old cars or new cars. We are involved with everything from 1932 Fords and Chevys, right up to woodies, shoe box cars, and muscle cars. Weather you drive a super sport Chevy Impala, or a nostalgia drag car we love them all. Our site has vendors like Watson’s Street Works, Borgeson Universal, Unisteer, California Car Cover, Holley Performance, AirBagIt, Rock Valley, Technostalgia, Ron Francis Wiring, and lots of others. Take some time and look through the site, and when you buy from one of our street rod vendors mention our name. Also look for us at the Street Rod Nationals, GoodGuys Columbus nationals, NSRA York PA, Syracuse Nationals, and many other large and small car events. We speak “Car” fluently, and love to talk to other street rodders and car nuts.
This is one of the best organizations on the planet. Do you want a weekly update on what is happening world wide in the automotive industry? If you need info on joining just give us a call and we will head you in the right direction.
